GET TO KNOW - Cali Thornhill Dewitt & Positive Messages

Positive Messages was conceived in 2020 during the first Covid-19 lockdown by GAG favotites P.A.M and Cali Thornhill DeWitt. The brand is all about spreading good vibes in a very weird social climate.

With contributions from PAM’s global community of creative friends (artists, writers, curators, DJs, producers and more) each submission contained “new ways of being, seeing, feeling, listening, connecting, sharing, imagining and tuning into joy.”

Not only are the messages positivity radiating, but the brand also has a focus on a positive sustainable impact. Produced in the US, their t-shirts, hoodies and sweatpants use EcoLife fabrics which are made using 50% recycled / 50% BCI (Better Cotton Initiative) yarn by EcoCycle®. The recycled cotton combined with solar energy saves 5.46 square miles of land cultivation, and 2,024 gallons of water compared with conventionally grown cotton.

Cali Thornhill DeWitt is a bit of an enigma. As a cult artist and creative his work spans multiple worlds. His DIY aesthetic pairs strong typography with photographic imagery often of war, and aerial shots of earth in darkly humorous collages. Dewitt's style often evokes his past of making DIY band posters and album artwork throughout the 1990's - he's a true kid of the grunge era and even toured with Courtney Love and Kurt Cobain to nanny for their daughter.

Throughout his career Dewitt has been a true tastemaker, being a driving force for many collaborations including his famed merchandise for Kanye West's The Life of Pablo, and teaming up with Virgil Abloh on multiple occasions. He helped bring to life a Dover Street Market's installations and later a capsule collection with Off-White.

The thing about DeWitt is, you've probably never heard of him but witnessed his creative outputs, that's because he respects and loves his autonomy. Living in Los Angeles he's surrounded by those hoping to become rich and famous, but that has never made him tick.

In a GQ Interview DeWitt pays tribute to the internet for how he stays culturally in the loop. He is no old head complaining about how Kodak Black is hard to understand, instead he celebrates where culture is now. DeWitt keeps himself culturally connected through people and music. He's a big fan of record label The trilogy tapes based in London, and White Material.

All round Cali Thornhill DeWitt is a damn cool guy - cool in the utmost complementary way! An underground, creative, sober, weed smoking, bike ridding, visionary. He's a straight up understated influential person.
