Romeos, located on 3/126 Vivian Street holds a special place in the heart of the GAG gang. Known for their crazy good cheesecakes, Gizzy golds and GAG member Matt's favourite sando in all of Aotearoa, it's no surprise you'll find at least one of the team parked up here on a Friday night. Inspired by the bodegas of NYC, Romeos fires up BECS like no one else in town — you can almost smell the stink of the L train when biting into this bad boy.

From cosy morning coffee spot, Romeos turns into a proper bar at night, with local DJ's, strong cocktails and natty wine you'll be sure to end up dancing on the tables and embarrassing yourself.

We hit up owner Seb, a member of our community to ask about the Good Shit they're getting up to at Romeos.

What has been the effect on your business post-lockdown last year and what is the biggest challenge you’ve faced during this current lockdown?

We missed the first one as we opened up after lockdown last year, bit of a bummer now. We’ve had a great turn out for our level 3 cheeseburgers special! Big thanks to everyone who has been coming out!

What’s the biggest revelation you’ve had during these times?

There’s no place like home.

If you had to lockdown with one celebrity/person of influence, dead or alive, who would it be?

Mikel Artera to convince him to stop tanking Arsenal.

Who are your inspirations? It can be people, places, art etc and has this evolved over time?

Tony soprano eating cold cuts straight outta the fridge.

Why did you choose Wellington to start your business? Was it difficult to establish yourself as a business in Wellington?

Because you can’t beat Welly on a good day!

How can local people help your community? What can they do to support?

Macca's drive through is sick and all, but support your local run businesses.

What is your quintessential Wellington experience?

Start the day off with a Prefab brunch perhaps get on the mimosas. Bit of r&r down at Balena Bay. Dinner with some mates, maybe a rams byo, pick up a bottle from Everyday. Pull into Romeo’s for a few beers. Newkor for a karaoke room, back to Romeo’s then you find yourself at 121. 🤠

Go to lockdown food/recipe?

We have been all about our desserts this lockdown. This Bon Apetite recipe is really quick and easy and goes well with a scoop of Duck Island.

Can you share us a recipe for a cocktail thats essential for lockdown?

Summer is around the corner and that means breaking out the spritzys. My fave is a Cappelletti spritz but Campari and Aperol spritz are also refreshing as hell.

In a wine glass fill with ice and then pour 45ml Cappelletti, 60ml Prosecco and a splash of soda. Garnish with an orange slice or a couple of olives.
