The image on the front of his t-shirt is of GAG's first office, although I'm not really sure you can officially call it an office.

It was out the back of the original GAG store at 120 Victoria Street, which opened in September 2004. I love this photo! It reminds me of these early years - all the hard work - the ups and downs.

If I wasn’t in the shop helping customers - I would be out back in this office, sitting at this tiny desk. I spent thousands of hours here - working away - receiving stock - planning store events - art shows - parties - figuring out what brands and stock to order - designing ads for Vice mag - listening to Warren G - dealing with Busters awful farts (GAG's OG bulldog) - building relationships with brands and suppliers - planning - dreaming - and drinking beers with customers and friends.

This office had no windows to the outside world - but it did have a small window into the GAG shop out front - you could see if whoever was working needed an extra hand - or if a friend had dropped in, you could pop out and say hi. After the store closed for the day I would usually head out to grab a cheap Malaysian dinner from Satay Village or Satay Kingdom - meet friends for a drink - see a band or a DJ - then end up back at this office at midnight to finish off the work that needed to be done.

I would work until the early hours as there was always so much to do to keep this business running - I'd head home, get a few hours sleep, and then do it all over again the next day.

Although GAG has grown, and our office is a bit bigger now with real windows that let in fresh air - all of the same principles apply to what we do now, as they did back then when it all began.

I still spend many late nights working on GAG. Retail is, and has always been an incredibly tough industry that never sleeps… and neither do I.

The print on the back of this tee is the side of our fridge at the GAG office currently, with stickers from the amazing brands around the world we've stocked at GAG for the last 20 years. We love and appreciate you all.

We've never had sales targets, or the generic business drivers and growth plans at GAG - that doesn’t interest me.

Our main target has always been to give our customers the best possible service - whether that’s in-store or online - we love to be welcoming and friendly - and help you find something you'll love for years to come.

Thanks to all our loyal customers for shopping with GAG, and an even bigger thanks to all my amazing staff, friends and family!

Big love for the Double Decade.

    Ruben.
