Veja and Sea Shepherd have united for a new collaboration

Veja X Sea Shepherd

Veja has teamed up with the Sea Shepherd to bring us an all-black take on the newly-launched Dekkan silhouette.

Formed in 1977 Sea Shepherd is a non profit organisation that was created for the protection of whales, dolphins and marine wildlife.

Together with authorities they use their armoured ships to tackle illegal fishing head on and bring poachers to justice. In an age where our oceans are being pillaged with impunity, Sea Shepherd is on the front lines protecting our environment.

"When Sea Shepherd contacted us to create a collaboration, the whole VEJA team was very honored. This collaboration is a tribute to the defenders of the sea."

Well known for its “direct action” approach, Sea Shepherd is a contentious player even labelled as an "eco-terrorist" organisation in Japan (Japan still hunts whales).

As a more radical organisation than regular fashion brands would normally partner, Veja jumped at the chance to work with these environmental ocean defenders.

With environmentalism at the forefront of Veja’s ethos it’s a collab made environmental heaven.

The idea to work with Sea Shepherd resonated with Veja co-founder Sébastien Kopp because of their mutual focus on taking action towards a solution, “I link what they do for the ocean with what we do in Amazonia. It’s very much linked, because it’s really difficult to preserve versus destroy.”

For this collaboration, the VEJA studio worked on a full-black sea rover version of the Dekkan. Made in Alveomesh, this technical fabric is made of 100% recycled polyester.

The Dekkan is an outdoor and adventurous style. Along with VIBRAM, they combined their ecological materials and their know-how in a new formulation. The midsole is 70% sugar cane, which provides a forceful grip, while the outsole contains 30% Amazonian rubber and 25% rice waste.

Made in Brazil The Dekkan Veja X Sea Shepherd is 50% Bio-Based and recycled.
